The Rabbit

So here I am, taking the WordPress Blogging 101: Zero to Hero course and spending my time tweaking my blog’s design, which can take me down the rabbit hole.

“down the rabbit hole”, a metaphor for an entry into the unknown, the disorientating or the mentally deranging, from its use in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_hole

Yes, I can get obsessed with design, with colors, images, widgets and such. Design work can trigger hypomanic symptoms, and what goes up must come down. I grab onto a problem, try innumerable iterations, and finally find a solution which pleases my aesthetic sensibilities.

Hopefully I will actually produce some meaningful content and not just change the functionality and look of my blog, though I do want to improve it and learn the ins and outs of using WordPress.

  1. I cannot keep up, and I’m hypomanic and obsessive with my blog.

  2. Thanks! Sometimes I feel like I’m out of breath trying to keep up. But then I take a deep breath and start all over again!

  3. It is SO annoying. It just lingers on and on.

  4. I love it (the computer; the blogging and social media). Maybe I love it too much. I certainly could do other, more productive things, but then …

and so sorry about your getting over the flu, I had it over Christmas and mannnn! it took a lot out of me too. Feel better!!!

  5. Great to hear. Following new blogs. Honestly, can’t keep up. Very supportive community.

  6. I did Zero to Hero last year. I didn’t finish it, but the early part of the challenge really, really helped my blog, and I met a few friends that way.

  7. Chicken or egg? Actually, I’m exhausted and mildly sick (flu symptoms linger as fatigue and nausea). When I’m sick I do not want to move, but my mind still works (somewhat), so working on my laptop suits me. That does not explain every other day that I spend hours and hours on the computer. Working on the computer certainly stimulates the brain. Social media is a form of social stimulation which for me can trigger hypomania and/or exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed.

  8. It’s looking great! Now Alice might want to know, which comes first, the redesigns or the hypomania?

  9. I like the way you think woman…

  10. Just half-ss it when familial responsibilities get in the way. I tend to half-ss my familial responsibilities, but you could half-*ss the blogging just as easily or more so.

  11. Thank you once again, Sheri. Always something to learn, isn’t there?

  12. I swear I thought I caught a glimpse of you while down in the rabbit hole today too Kitt! Lol I am overwhelmed already and sort of semi-paralized as I was keeping up with Blogging 101 only to be waylaid by familial deadlines this week.

Reading your post today made me realize I’m not alone in the vastness that is WordPress so back on the horse I go.

Thank you so much for posting this today. It is perfect!

  13. Kitt – Great comments you are thinking through and posting for your class. I took this class and will probably take it again. I still have so much to learn.

  14. Yep. From my front yard. Thanks.

  15. Beautiful artwork on your blog. You are talented.

  16. Cleaner and simpler is better in terms of design.

  17. I’ve been blogging on WordPress for over a year, and once upon a time, back in the late 90’s, I designed websites. WordPress is AWESOME for designing sleek website. Keep it simple and add as you gain confidence and learn skills. Do not beat yourself up. Many of the bloggers in this class have lots of experience but realize that when we are self-taught, we may have missed something. Besides, WordPress is always changing their functionality and design. That’s the world today, constantly changing at warp speed.

  18. I’m liking the new layout! It is so easy to get caught up in the design of your blog instead of writing content. This layout is very visually appealing – did you take the photograph of the flowers for your blog header? Very pretty!

  19. I agree …I also think this whole space is an appropriate metaphor for wonderland…a whole new world with so many weird and wonderful things…new people to meet and amazing worlds to visit.

  20. I am so with you. I think that is why I chose the format I use – it is relatively clean and I am not confused by all of the nonsense.

Besides…who cares what the blog looks like if the content isn’t there?!?

  21. As you saw in my post I have trouble with widgets and headers and all the design setups. I’m lucky I can get a picture inserted

  22. Thank you. I didn’t draw the rabbit, of course. It’s an illustration from the book.

  23. I like the rabbit!!! Wish I had your skills!
