What Have I Been Up To?

Writing?

No, not writing.

Volunteering?

Yes! I’m volunteering for my local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) chapter, NAMI Central Oregon.

Last April, I had the honor to share my In Your Own Voice presentation at the Redmond, Oregon police department’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). Next week, I’m sharing my story at the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Department CIT training.

Sharpening my design and technical skills, I’ve updated and redesigned the website: NAMICentralOregon.org. Check it out!

What Else? Shoving Down Trauma

Physical therapy for pelvic floor dysfunction brought up traumatic memories, which I discussed with my psychologist. He recommended that I write to process the feelings. I journaled one day, cried, and then shoved the trauma back down. I can intellectualize it, but feeling the feelings is far more difficult.

If you need support regarding sexual violence, RAINN  is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. Who knows, maybe I’ll give them a call one of these days when I feel up to it.
