Susan Zarit of Bravely Bipolar posted this video clip from the 2009 Tony Awards Performance of ‘You Don’t Know’ and ‘I Am the One’ from the Broadway musical Next to Normal on her blog post Another Sleepless Night. The video clip had me in tears. No doubt others living with mental illness and their families will find the performance deeply moving.

Yes and no. Sometimes we keep people out by not communicating fully and honestly with them. At the same time, we never really know what it is like to be someone else.

I would love to see it. I may watch it on YouTube, but nothing matches watching theater live. I’ll have to check to see when they are touring nearby.

This is my absolute favorite musical. If you ever get the chance to see it, the full show is incredible. Very deep but also very moving. The whole audience was in tears each time I saw it. Sending well wishes your way!

Nice coincidence that I was looking for Broadway musicals on youtube last night and came across this. It did make me look up on wikipedia what it was about and piqued my curiousity when I discovered it was about mental illness.I will give it a watch as there are several full versions on youtube. I then did the check on ibdb (internet broadway database) to see who was in the cast.
The introduction by Carrie Fisher on The Tony’s clip was wonderful. I am a big fan of hers and love her one woman stage show “Wishful Drinking” where she shares stories about her BiPolar.
