I saw grief drinking a cup of sorrow and called out, It tastes sweet, does it not? You have caught me, grief answered, and you have ruined my business. How can I sell sorrow, when you know it's a blessing? -Rumi
March 2015 I posted this poem as we mourned the loss of my husband’s oldest brother to lung cancer. My father recently died of undiagnosed lung cancer in spite of having quit smoking decades before he died.
I share it again to remind myself that grief is a blessing. We feel it because we love.

Love Persists

There is something both beautiful and sorrowful when someone or something dies. Something spiritual lives on. Love persists and is a blessing. I do not deny the pain of grief, but believe that death is a part of life, and that grief is a part of loving. There is no way to love without experiencing grief at one time or another.

“We feel it because we love.” — so true. And we know love, because God at first loved us ❤️ And he promises us a time when we will see our loved ones again… right here on earth. Some of my fav scriptures: John 5:27; Psalms 37:10, 11, 29. May the God of all comfort be with you as you grieve and also comfort others ?

  6. I agree with you. Death is not only a relief when the person passing was in pain, but it is a natural part of the life cycle.

  7. sometimes loses are better for the one leaving when they were in so much pain. I am in no way glorifying death. but I saw my mom struggling with cancer for 2 years and when she departed in our hands for a very long time I was in a state of relief.
    for her..

  8. ? Like your “Love Persists” prose as well as Rumi’s wisdom on Grief. Thought I would listen to some YouTube presentations from the prose of the Lebanese poet Kahlil Gibran last evening. You seem to be at peace through this grief period and hope you and family are doing well.
God Bless + Take Care !!!

  9. God bless. You and your children are in my prayers.

  11. Together, we understand the enormous loss of a father. “Love Persists” is truly beautiful and profound. Sending you my love, Kitt!

  12. Thank you, Mark. Bless you.

  13. Grief is that expression of the love we have for that person or even situation, and within it is a great healing. To not express it is to block because of fear, hence no healing. Fear will knock on our door so that we can be healed, it asks us constantly.
But you are expressing a great love Kitt, from the love of much healing in your journey <3

  14. “…grief is a blessing. We feel it because we love.” – wise words.
