Happy Anniversary to KittOMalley.com

I’ve been blogging for three years! Yay! Hope to do more writing. Hands full this week caring for my son.
He’s going through a rough patch. His migraine medication (anti-seizure medication topiramate aka Topamax) interferes with his memory and cognition (why it’s nicknamed “Dopamax”), making it challenging for him to read, complete his homework, or take a test. Especially frustrating for him, for he’s gifted (yes, I’m biased and boasting – I’m his mom and I’m proud of him). With his neurologist’s input, reduced the dosage of his topiramate. He prefers migraines over not being as bright. Hopefully the reduced dosage will still prevent migraines, and lessen or eliminate the side effects.

  1. I’m more than late with this, but Happy Anniversary!

  2. My gastroenterologist diagnosed me with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). Heavy fiber in artichokes makes it worse. That said, love artichokes.

Congratulations, Kitt. Only been following your blogs for the last year, but have enjoyed participating in your discussions. Have read several previous comments on this post related to GI tract problems. Although I am not a nutritionist, think this article (https://draxe.com/artichokes/) might provide some good info to help with the problem. As usual, check with your physician.
    God Bless.

  4. I’m in great company. Congratulations to you, too!

  5. CONGRATULATIONS & Happy 3rd year Anniversary!!
I hope your son’s reduced dosage is going smoothly, my dear friend.
Love you!!!!!! Hope you get that writing done too! XOXOXO

  6. Congratulations on your anniversary. I guess we joined just about at the same time (my own anniversary just passed a little ways back). I suspect it was one of history’s occasional “rushes of genius” (he says as his face turns red). Lol.

  7. You’re welcome.

  8. congrats on your anniversary. Keep writing. Have a blessed weekend with your family.

  9. My son needs closer to 2500 calories, 3 meals and 3 snacks, but he is a picky eater and has GI issues, too. I find it difficult to eat that many calories.

  10. It’s hard to know what to do. I also have an uncooperative GI tract. Your son would need a lot more calories, protein, carbs and such but the only way I can have peace with both the migraines and my uncooperative stomach is to have six mini -meals each day. The meal is 200 calories give or take and contains one protein, one carbohydrate serving and then something that sounds good. My overall goal is 1500 cal a day and that gives me a little wiggle room.

  11. Thank you so much for the compliments!

  12. I give my son OTC fish oil and multivitamins. May be better to change it up to something more like your regimen and in a way easier for him to metabolize, as he has a sensitive GI tract (history of GERD & emesis).

  13. Kitt – Your advocacy work has shown, by way of your blogging, over and over. Not a lot of individuals will put themselves out there and tell the truth. Bravo for your courage. Over the past three years, you’ve grown from simply stating what NAMI does but you tell it in such a way that all understand and then to top it off, you add a personal twist. That’s what gives your blog that steller gleam for all of us.
I’m sure, being the mother you are, you’ve heard every recommendation out there, and even tried some. Like your son, I was tired of the numbing dud feeling my meds left me in. I told my neurologist we had to do something else. So – we’re doing Magneisum, extra lutin for my eyes, Prescription Strength Fish Oil [it’s going over the counter soon], Fever Few and recently added Vitamin B Complex for multiple stressers which can trigger a migraine.

  14. Thank you, Vic! You’re a wonderful friend to have!

  15. Thank you, Uncle Paul. Love you!

Congrats with love and pride from Uncle Paul

  18. My husband pretty much grew out of them. Many men do as their testosterone levels increase in adolescence.

  19. Thanks. He said he’d prefer migraines over less intelligence, which says a lot, for his migraines were debilitating.

  20. Thank you, Marie! Congratulations to you for not being so far behind.

  21. Thank you so much, Bradley!

  22. Thank you, Samina!

  23. Congratulations Kitt, I love your blog! Hope things get better soon for your son.

  24. Congratulations Kitt! 😀 I’m sorry about your son! I used to have migraines when I was younger 🙁 fortunately I outgrew them and I hope your son does too!

  25. Congrats, Kitt. Your blog is a favorite. ❤️ I have a daughter who suffers migraines, so sorry for your son, hope the med adjustment helps.

  28. Congratulations dear Kitt; hmm when I look at I wasn’t so far behind you now 😉 Wish your son well and mum’s have to be proud of their kids – it’s sad some of us didn’t really feel that from our own parents and maybe feel guilty even ‘beaming bright’ to or about our kids
